A short variety making for easy harvests, Ranch is one of the primary varieties currently used in commercial and home plantings in the United States. It is drought tolerant and better on poor soil than most other elderberry varieties. Berries are born on first year wood, so heavy pruning is common and recommended. Used for everything from cough syrup to making a divine liqueur. American elderberries are native to North America.
