Pyrus pyrifolia ‘Hosui’
Hosui is a popular Japanese Asian pear known for its juicy, crisp texture and outstanding rich sweet flavor. The medium to large fruit has attractive golden-brown skin and is considered by some to have the best quality fruit of any variety. Ripening midseason, Hosui produces abundant crops and stores well into early winter. The vigorous trees can get pseudomonas disease in wet climates, so wait till weather is dry (summertime) to prune to reduce disease introduction.

Pollination: Needs a second variety to pollinate and make fruit. Plant with another Asian pear or an early-blooming European pear variety.
Time to productivity: 1–2 years after planting.
Ripening time: Mid-August to late September.
Storage length: Stores until December.
