Description
Althaea officinalis. A beautiful, tall flowering plant with immense medicinal value. Prefers moister soils and will spread readily there by seed. Grow in sun to part shade in fertile, even wet (marshy!) soil. Eaten as a famine food, it also has immune bolstering effects as well as providing general and specific medicine for colds, soar throats, infections, intestinal health, and more. The roots make a quite decent (thick) tea when brewed cold, which is a great way to consume it for all its benefits. Light purple and white flowers will reach 5' tall. Zones 3 to 7.
