Description
Malus domestica ‘Macoun’
Simply an excellent tasting dessert apple. Macoun (muh-COWN) has an aromatic flavor that is both very sweet and very tart with an almost lemon zing. Does not store well, so it is the quintessential seasonal apple treat. Considered to be the best apple from the McIntosh line. It is a dark burgundy color with pure white flesh that is crisp, juicy, firm and delicious. Great productivity, vigor, and fireblight resistance. Sometimes used in cider as well.
USDA Zone: 4–8
Pollination: Needs a different apple as a pollinator to produce fruit. Liberty will not work.
Time to productivity: 2–3 years depending on conditions.
