Wolf River is a historic Wisconsin apple prized for its massive fruit. This one's the size of your face! It has crisp white flesh and is perfect for baking. Originating in 1875 from seeds of the Russian Alexander apple, it is actually one of only a few varieties that are relatively true to seed when replanted. Wolf River produces enormous apples, often requiring just one apple per pie. It is juicy, and aromatic with a tart, sub-acid flavor, making it excellent for pies, sauces, and as a sharp addition to cider blends. Trees are vigorous and incredibly productive for many years. They have a spreading habit with drooping branches. Tends to be biennially. Exceptionally hardy, and productive even in cold climates, Wolf River is resistant to scab, mildew, and cedar rust, and is self-fertile. A great one!
